Prologue

Porsche launched the 356 " No. 1" Roadster in 1948. A brand was born.

Porsche is much more than a brand name. Porsche is a byword for a sporty driving experience and way of thinking for a sporty driving experience and way of thinking, as well as for automotive innovation, design and functionality. Porsche has existed as a brand for 70 yeasrs, ever since 1948 when Ferry Porsche realised his vision of "driving in its most beautiful form".

The town of Klagenfurt approved the car on June 8, 1948.

On June 8, 1948, the first Porsche prototype with chassis number 356-100 received its general operating permit. This is the date on which the brand was born. Once Porsche returned to Stuttgart in 1950, production of the Porsche 356 Series began. it became an international success : By the year 1965, the company had built aroud 78,000 cars. Its successor model became the actual icon of the brand - the Porsche 911 helped the company achieve a definitive breakthrough.

Over the past seven decades, the company has experienced many ups and downs, and has written not only automotive history, but also economic history. Thanks to efficient production methods, qualified employees clear brand management and innovative models, the once small, niche manufacturer from Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen has developed into a leading manufacturer of sports cars, both from a technical and a design perspective.

On the Road to the future : the Mission E concept study

The root of today's Porsche AG, the tradition and the company values are as important to the brand as the attributes of technology, design and driving dynamics that are characteristic of Porsche. It is obvious that the history of a company like Porsche is a precious commodity, as it forms the foundation on which the brand is built, and therefore also the company and its products.

For this reason, every car that bears the Porsche crest on its bonnet is rooted in the tradition of the legendary racing cars that have demonstrated Porsche;s brand values with impressive victories on every racing course in the world since the beginning. Since the early 1950s, Porsche has used its motorsport successes to advertise its sports cars, which, thanks to the close connection between motorsports and series production, boast an image that customers all ove the world appreciate. A total of well over 30,000 race victories, including sixteen manufacturer and team world champtionships, three Formula One World Drivers' Targa Florio and ninteen Le Mans overall victories is clear evidence for the sum of all of the chracteristics and values for which Porsche is known.

Porsche faces the challenges of the future with inexhaustible innovative strength. Digitalisation, electrification and connectivity are paving the way into the future. Porsche regards the developments in the industry as a fantastic opportunity: For the past 70 years, Porsche has stood for a unique product and driving experience, resulting in a strong emotional bond with customers. Continuing this experience into the future while making Porsche even more innovative and efficient, and thereby promoting profitable growth - these are historic opportunities. Porsche seized these opportunities long ago and is already on its way towards the future. The Mission E study is an expression of this. In the "70 years of Porsche Sports Cars" anniversary year of 2018, the brand is looking condifently to the future.

Ferry Porsche is quoted as having said: "The last car ever to be built will be sports car", but an end to the story of the automobile is still a long way off for Porsche. Even now, the engineers at Weissach are working on the future of the sports car. The company is facing the challenges with the same innovation spirit that has made it great over the course of the last six decades. However, the most important guarantee of success for Porsche is the human factor: Customers, fans and employees at Porsche are united by a special passion: The love of cars - a driving force that will always be stronger than any engine, be it petrol, hybrid or electic drive.

Porsche's Roots

The story of the Porsche brand begins in 1948 with the first Porsche 356 Sports car. The ideological foundation of the brand, however, is the technical life's work of Professor Ferdinand Porsche (1875-1951), continued by his son Ferry (1909-1998). Since as early as the beginning of the last century, the name Porsche has been synonymous with ground-breaking innovations in automotive engineering. As one of the pioneers of electromobility Ferdinand Porsche found his way into the automotive industry in around 1898.
